It Isn't That Easy
If you listen to those who are making big money from selling the get-rich-quick books, you will believe that starting a business on the Web is easy enough for a toddler.  Their pitches come along with cheerful pictures of workers now spending family time in lieu of being chained to someone else's desk.
Avoiding Writing Scams
There probably isn’t a way to get around them completely. As negative as this sounds, they are growing by leaps and bounds. The use of the Web in advertising writing jobs has just made it all that easier.
Scam Artists Offering Credit Cards
Anytime anyone calls offering a pre-approved credit card, ask to have a form sent to you that you can check carefully before signing and returning it. Federal law requires your written pre-approval before a credit card can be issued to you.
Charitable Contributions
What to watch for anytime you get a call asking you to make a contribution on behalf of a public agency, such as local or state police, fire, or emergency rescue workers. Ask the caller to send you written information. Many of the calls are bogus.
Sweepstakes Sweep the Net
Many people are familiar with those little cards or letters in the mail that say "You JOHN Q. PUBLIC have definitely been found eligible to win. Please send 19.95 to..." Most people throw them away, and for good reason.
Secret of the Pyramids
Here's what the Oregon Attorney General was quoted as saying about such schemes in his press release. "Pyramids are illegal because they are inherently fraudulent. In order to keep a pyramid working so everyone recruited gets the promised money, the number of investors would have to quickly exceed the population of the United States."
FTC Repairs Credit Repair
Some time ago, the FTC announced 15 cases against credit repair firms as a part of "Operation Payback," a joint effort between the FTC and 10 State Attorneys General. "Operation Payback" is a federal-state crackdown on fraudulent credit repair telemarketers.
Eureka !!!
Americans are renowned for our Yankee ingenuity. We seem to love to tinker, create and invent. When someone does invent something new, they quite rightly want to get it registered and promoted. That's when they turn to Invention Promotion Firms. BE CAREFUL!
www.madison.ave?
There are a number of companies on the Net that are claiming they can help you make big bucks advertising in cyberspace. At first it may sound like a great opportunity. There are a lot of people out there, tons of newsgroups, and bulk E-Mail is cheap. Take a closer look.
Internet Scams Unveiled
The messages flood electronic mail boxes and clog the Internet. But online as in life, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The National Consumer League issued a list of the top five Internet scams, based on complaints from online users.
Break the Chain
There is one major problem with chain letters, no matter how you received them. They are illegal if they request money or other items of value and promise a substantial return.
Finding a Cure for Snake-Oil
Unfortunately, the Internet is full of snake-oil salespeople hawking potions and pills they claim can cure diseases but often are themselves harmful. In fact many of the "medications" marketed on the Internet have never been tested.
Toxic Free Laundry?  Nope!
This scam is something like the guaranteed bug killer that consisted of two blocks of wood. The advertising for these non-toxic laundry aids include some of the most blatantly fraudulent product representation I've ever run across.
